Chosen Item – Barbour Waxed Jacket

Screen Shot 2016-12-05 at 17.03.10.png

History – There isn’t much history surrounding my personal Barbour Jacket, as I received as a birthday present in October. However the brand Barbour has been producing quality country clothing for 120 years. I’ve deceived on this item because, not only for the sentimental reasons of receiving it as a present, but also because I am intrigued by the idea that people invest in a coat which can last up to 50 years and that people don’t buy a Barbour jacket, they invest in a Barbour jacket.

Treatment

Working Title – I Wouldn’t swap it for the world Part 1

Synopsis – There will be 3 films, the first film will show the life of a Barbour coat, through the environments it is suited to and events it would come across. The second, an interview between an interviewer and myself with the interviews aim to find out what the first film is about. Finally the third fill will reveal what the first film is about. The first film will be partly from the point of view of the coat and partly looking on as the coat in uses for different uses.

Format – A Nikon D5200 is will be the main device used the film. The footage shot will be edited in Final Cut Pro and then distributed through YouTube.

Estimated Duration – The first film will be around 1/2 minute long. The second film will be between 2 and 3 minutes long. Finally the third film will be 20 seconds long.

Intended Audience – The film will be intended for both a male and female audience. An age range of 19+ and for a country middle to upper class audience.

Style – The genre of the film is be a dark heavy country style. This to show the hard life of a object that is used daily for work and also socially.

My Influence (the above video) is Barbour’s advertisement VT  for their 2015 Triumph International collection. I have chosen this as my influence; firstly because it is a Barbour advertisement, meaning it directly relates to my Wouldn’t Swap it item. Also the location and narrative of the trailer I will use as influence.

Rationale – The product conforms to the scenario as there is a teaser and reveal VT, which both are influenced by the same item. My Barbour Wax jacket, something I wouldn’t swap for the World. The band Barbour is a country orientated band, so that will instinctively attract  my target audience.

Feasibility – The project is highly feasible, as all the locations and resources are accessable.

Budget – There will be no budget as there is no funding required.

Deadlines – Pre-production; 31st October. VT; 28th October. Final show; 12th December.

Evaluation

I think the presentation style of which I used was effective in transfer of information regarding my Wouldn’t it Swap it for the World. The style used was; introduction, part 1 of my video, discussion of part 1, part 2 of my video, then evaluation of the videos and reveal of my wouldn’t swap it. This style was effect because it transferred  information then the discussion of it gave the audience time to take in the information and process it.

I believe I achieved the style I was intending successfully and imbedded the content required. My style was a dirty, country genre. Which I achieved through using dirty shots, low exposure to darken shots and timing my filming to bad weather adding the the country feel. However

My technical ability development was improved to have a greater understanding of using Final Cut Pro and a better ability in creating short films and VTs for a Tv show. Firstly I learnt how to use more tool within Final Cut Pro; tools such as custom titles, editing different types of cuts and using the timeline for effectively. Also I gain greater knowledge on how to film using a DSLR, a skill I believe will be handy later in this course.

I used a DSLR for shooting both VTs, the DSLR work well in well lit condition and was able to created all the effects I required. However in dark light situation the DSLR did not perform well and I was unable to use the footage I took. In future I will take lighting equipment with me to allow me to film in dark light situations.
